Webinar on Inclusion in Museums

Museums are evolving into more inclusive spaces, ensuring that their cultural and educational offerings are accessible to a diverse audience. Accessibility in museums is not only about removing physical barriers but also about adopting innovative strategies that enhance visitor experiences and foster social inclusion. From interactive exhibitions and digital tools to community-driven projects, institutions are pioneering new approaches to inclusivity.

As part of the SHIFT consortium team’s commitment to sharing knowledge and promoting best practices, BMN is organizing a two-webinar series titled Inclusion in Museums: Presentation of Best Practices. This series will feature museum professionals and experts presenting, authors of published articles. They will share their experiences in implementing inclusive strategies, identifying challenges, and discussing future opportunities and be there to discuss with participants of the webinars.

The webinar will be organised in two parts:

Part 1: 28 February 2025, 13:00–15:00 CET
Part 2: 14 March 2025, 13:00–15:00 CET

Register for the webinars here.

The webinars will highlight key insights from our recently published collection of case studies, showcasing inclusive initiatives from museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Hungary, as well as an example from a library in Romania. Museum professionals will share their experiences in implementing inclusive strategies, highlighting both successes and challenges. From tactile exhibitions and audio descriptions to digital innovations such as QR codes, NFC, and VR, these examples showcase how museums are leveraging technology to create more inclusive environments.

This publication is a valuable resource for museum professionals, researchers, and policymakers, offering practical guidance and inspiration for implementing accessibility-focused initiatives. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of international collaboration in promoting best practices across museums, galleries, and libraries.

The publication, which compiles best practices and transformative efforts in museum accessibility, is available for free download.

Listen to the publication! What is new about this publication is that you can also listen to it as it has been made as an audio publication with the help of AI technology developed within the SHIFT project.

By sharing these experiences and insights, the webinar series aims to inspire museums, galleries, and libraries to implement similar initiatives, strengthening accessibility across cultural institutions. It will provide a platform to explore how museums are evolving into more inclusive spaces, integrating innovative solutions to enhance visitor experiences and social participation.

The webinar is part of the SHIFT project (Metamorphosis of Cultural Heritage Into Augmented Hypermedia Assets for Enhanced Accessibility and Inclusion) that is being funded by the European Union Horizon Europe program.
