[Athens], [01 October 2023] – In a resounding success, on September 18, 2023, SHIFT (Metamorphosis of Cultural Heritage Into Augmented Hypermedia Assets For Enhanced Accessibility and Inclusion) held its European Heritage Days Webinar. The online event opened a window into cultural heritage accessibility and provided a introduction to the innovative tools developed by the SHIFT Consortium, a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Program under Cluster 2: Culture, Creativity, and Inclusive Society.
SHIFT is dedicated to preserving and enhancing cultural heritage through advanced digital technologies, fostering digital transformation strategies, and encouraging the adoption of cutting-edge tools within the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI).
The project’s webinar to celebrate this year’s European Heritage Days drew an enthusiastic audience, with 146 participants actively engaging in the event. Beyond the live audience, the webinar garnered extensive online viewership in the days following, reaching a broader audience eager to explore the latest advancements in the field.
European Cultural Heritage Days, an annual September tradition, brings together signatory States to the European Cultural Convention in a joint initiative by the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The primary objectives of this action include raising awareness among European citizens about the richness and cultural diversity of Europe, and inviting responses to social, political, and economic challenges.
SHIFT partners contributing to the webinar included:
- Milena Milošević Micić from The Homeland Museum of Knjaževac, Serbia & Balkan Museum Access Group (Balkan Museum Network), delivering a presentation on “Examples of Increased Access to Museums and Heritage.”
- Ioana Crihana from the Association of Public Libraries of Romania ANBPR, offering an overview of the accessibility solutions implemented by Romanian libraries.
- Dr. George Margetis from the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, presenting the groundbreaking work SHIFT is conducting in Work Package 3 and specifically highlighting the innovative tools developed to enhance the accessibility, inclusivity, and appeal of cultural heritage content.
The webinar commenced with an opening address by Dr. Evangelos Kyriakidis, the Director of the Heritage Management Organization (HERITΛGE).
